The Field School @ Medalta offers students an unique opportunity for hands-on excavation, site mapping, artifact washing, and story-building. They will be working along Archaeologist, Dr. Talva Jacobson to locate and excavate a Historic Stable used to shelter draft horses employed at Medalta sometime between 1912 and 1954.

Students will be apart of the first team to recover the archaeological remains associated with this building at the Medalta Potteries and their efforts will contribute to the story of how these horses were used to power pug mills or transport clay and products around the site!

Students are welcome to register for one, two, or three weeks. Multi-week students take on leadership roles and deepen their skills through expanded lab work and presentation opportunities.

Each student who attends the field school will need to bring the following to the site every day to be prepared for inclement weather.

  • Raincoat

  • Long sleeved shirt
  • Close-toed shoes, sturdy shoes or boots, no flip flops during excavations
